Even more distractions… Time to regroup… Resources…

Written by Tim Gary on July 17, 2006 – 2:06 am -

Today should have been a good day to work on some of my projects. Early on, it actually was…

Then more distractions hit, and before I knew it I’d gone and done the Déjà Vu thing where nothing much actually gets done.

Instead of beating myself up over it, I’ll take it as another learning experience. Something to recognize that needs change. Which leads me to search for resources which may help me focus.

One of my life coaches has been steadfast in his urging me to meditate. I’ve done this in the past, for short bursts, but not long enough to bring it into my daily routine. While it might seem counter productive, my scattered mentality may mean it brings the most benefit. Calming the conscious thoughts and letting a bit of my subconscious work and communicate with me.

That combined with some of the teachings of Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, and many others, might just be the trick.

Soon, I will be going through my huge self-improvement book and cd collection to find the gems that stand out, and let you know what I come up with. One thing I can tell you is that Dr. Robert Anthony’s material is first rate.

Let me know what you find valuable!

Where’s the “self improvement” of the last post?

Written by Tim Gary on July 15, 2006 – 3:58 pm -

The last post shined a light on issues which affect me in my ongoing self-improvement goals.

If things that hold you back aren’t identified, examined, and “worked-on”, it’s unlikely much will change. Note too, that you can probably change outcomes without making/fixing some of what’s holding you back, it’ll just take longer. For instance, if you did all the same things, but just added one positive new action, you’ll be a step closer.

The keys to me, appear to be:
* Identify, but don’t dwell on things holding you back.
* Make small changes to those things, so that they are less destructive (less tv, less web-surfing, etc)
* Find positive actions which will help take you to your goals, dreams and desires
* Make small changes which incorporate those positive actions
* Always do your best to focus on what you want, NOT what you don’t want (Law of Attraction)

If you keep this up, all the while improving your effectiveness in the direction of your desires, you should be able to get there. How fast or slow this is, is up to you.

I for one, will be working on the time-wasting areas from my last post, and others I’ve discovered since then.

What will you be “working” on?

When You Know Too Much…and Think You Don’t

Written by Tim Gary on July 12, 2006 – 4:42 am -

Too Much??!

Yup.

You sit at the computer reading about this and that, and before you know it the clock shows 3am. It happens to be a work night, and the drive over the pass is 45 minutes or more with road construction.

Another victim of “know too much”.

So, what is it that I learned this particular night? Just to see how much stuff is taking my time these evenings.

  • Gauntlet arcade machines, the original Atari 4 player ones, are only fetching $450-$600 on ebay. Nothing is listed nearby on craigslist. I have a machine which I need to sell.
  • There are a zillion new product launches and relaunches in the internet marketing area. Browse through some of them, stuff other emails in a separate folder. Now I know that products will keep coming, even after I get the latest and greatest. This is actually something I can use in the near future… more later
  • There are some good, and not so good keywords/niches out there. Finding the right combination that both appeals to me, and has sideline potential might be tricky.
  • There are updates to some of the programs I use, and I’ve made them.
  • There are some cool sites that have some good looking poducts for career development. I found them while searching keywords relating to the mind. Things like Time Management, Descision Making, etc.. Think I could use this? If I stopped surfing,.. Well, sounds like a catch-22 to me.
  • Watched some videos from a recent purchase. Some interesting information. Some new, some old. It actually motivated me to take more action.
  • More death and destruction in the world.. Every day brings the headlines. I don’t read the full thing, since I’m looking for something more positive.
  • The cat peed in my office soemtime in the last week. Took time tossing stuff..
  • The local real estate market has cooled drastically, and there are mor homes for sale, but they aren’t much cheaper (yet).. This is a double edged sword since my condo’s not worth as much either.
  • Installing a blog with tools is pretty darn easy, though you must watch out for timing out in those tools, or you much start over.
  • My www.mindulgence.com domain is probably going to be something different than I first imagined. The definition of Indulgence is more geared to luxury, pleasure, excess, and extravagance. Thinking about what might fit is going to be fun!
  • I need to figure out which of my other unused domains will house the more self-development subjects.
  • Browsed the local Real Estate listings to see what’s out there.  I already know what’s out there, I just looked a day or two ago, and the realtor would let me know of anything new.
  • Helped prepare for painting the living room again.  The current (recently painted) wall color is too dark, and probably not a good choice for making a sale (if needed).
  • Played with Mr Milo the cat.
  • …you get the idea…

It was actually a relatively productive evening for me, since I did more than just surf and study. Lot’s of fluff, but not so much that I don’t feel like anything happened to move me along.

I’ll add to this list, just to help me point out some of the time-sucking activities that have kept me stuck. Even this blog post is one of those, but one which I feel has a great deal of potential benefit.

Who the heck are you to be reading this anyway?

I guess I should answer that for you first. Soon, an introduction will be made!
